The Melodic Snare Drummer takes a different approach to snare drum solos. It is designed for advanced players with good rudimental reading skills. However, the

writing is not inspired by a cadence or drumline march music. Instead, each solo follows the melody, instrumental solos and rhythm section groove from recorded tracks by George Benson. Even though these recordings date back to the mid-1970s, they are classics and provide rhythmically accurate ideas to challenge the reader. They are all available on CD or mp3.

“…Here’s a wrist workout that ultimately yields music rather than cadence-like exercises.”

-Jeff Potter (Modern Drummer - November 2015)

"Not only was the book tremendously fun to work on, but, it really helped me get the core idea of my clinic across to students!"

-Neil Grover (Boston Pops / Clinician)

“The book also addresses playing in time and to a groove! Drummers always have to groove, swing, keep time, in everything they do. I’ve had ex-cerpts of these solos for years and I’m so happy that Ron Tierno has put this

collection of solos into one book.”

-Billy Drummond (Jazz artist / Julliard / NYU)

“Rudiments are the staple of every drummer’s diet

regardless of sty-listic preference or genre and their value can never be overstated. The Melodic Snare Drummer is a cre-ative, challenging, well thought-out book.”

-Jon Hazilla (Jazz artist / Berklee)

“I’ve been waiting years for this bookto finally be made

available to the general public. It crosses the gap between technique and musicality that is sorely lacking in drum books. It is also a great book for pros just looking for a new outlet to lay down a groove.”

-Pat Hollenbeck (Boston Pops / Orchestrator)

“I‘m thrilled to see this in print! As a player, I fell in love with these play-alongs many years ago. As a teacher, my students will love this musical approach to rhythm, reading, and rudiments!"

-Chris Adams (Co-author, The New Breed II)
